St Mary's Cathedral choristers
St Mary's Cathedral
We went to St. Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh on Sunday 13th December 2009. The cathedral was big - a lot bigger than Holy Trinity, and had statues of Jesus, Mary and some saints. We went up after church to practice with the cathedral choristers in the afternoon. We had to warm up our voices which was rather strange and a little boring. However we learned that warming up your voice is very important if you want to sound good.
We sang traditional Christmas carols - Once in Royal David’s City, Silent Night, Ding Dong Merrily on High, Jingle Bells as well as some other carols. In the evening, some parents and relations listened to us singing in a concert.
Apart from some kids who came as a group from a school, we were the only people there apart from Leonie’s sister, Zara, and one another girl. There were around 40-50 kids there, together with the organist, pianist and conductor. We got refreshments after the concert - chocolate biscuits, muffins, chocolate and juice, tea and coffee. The choristers wore red robes – similar to our choir but with a white collar- and they sang carols with a descant. The school children sang “A Bright Star”.
On the way home we stopped at the MacDonald’s drive thru for our supper.
