Lectionary discussion group gets under way

lectern - big eagle

the lectern in Holy Trinity

I’m proposing a meeting once a month to discuss the lectionary readings and sermons in Holy Trinity.

The idea would be to meet [the first meeting at 7pm on Wednesday 14th of October] in the King’s Arms, to talk about the sermon the previous Sunday (readings will be provided in advance) and then – for a shorter time – to say something about the readings (or at least the gospel) for the following month.

This would provide an opportunity for the preacher to receive feedback and for people to say what it was that spoke to them in the sermon.  In the second half, if each one there can say even one thing about the passage (for the following Sunday) and what it means / says to them, then I am sure this will help with sermon preparation.

In trying to make a sermon relevant, challenging and engaging it is important that we listen to each other.  I hope this will provide just such a chance.

The sermons may be put on the website.
